Race weekend in Jerez

The FIM Supersport World Championship season 2021 continued last weekend at the Jerez – Angel Nieto Circuit in Spain.

The weekend was very difficult. A serious accident in the WSSP300 class on Saturday was top on everyone's mind and all thoughts were with the young rider Dean Berta Viñales, who passed away. The entire Kallio Racing Team would like to express their condolences to Dean's family and his team.

On Saturdays Superpole, Hannes Soomer raced to 15th place, and Vertti Takala ranked 25th. Saturday's race was cancelled due to the accident. In Sunday's race, Hannes Soomer raced to the finish in 12th position, and Vertti Takala’s race ended with a crash. “When it comes to riding, there's something missing at the moment and performing is very difficult. Now we must work hard and find relaxation for riding, as well as get successful performances,” says Kallio Racing’s team manager Vesa Kallio.

Hannes Soomer:
“It was a very tough weekend on and off track. It seems like we have lost our way a bit after my injury on what me and the bike needs to be fast. We are definitely more far from the top than before and we as a team need to work hard in Portimāo to get back our speed. On Saturday we were reminded again of the dangers of this sport. All the strength to his family and friends.”

Vertti Takala:
‘'I like the Jerez circuit and I've ridden there a lot, so Friday got off to a great start, as I had a bit of a different approach to this weekend than earlier ones. In Saturday's Superpole, I failed to get my riding to such a level that I would have had one good lap run. Then there was this very sad accident on Saturday, so of course there was no racing on that day, and everyone was feeling quite sad. This is the bad side about this sport. In Sunday's warm-up I had a good feeling and we made little changes to bike’s settings too. The changes seemed to suit me, and my riding got better, so the race started well in that respect. I got off to a good start, but on the second straight there was almost a collision with one other rider, and I lost some positions in it. I tried to achieve those places back, but that fight ended in a crash and in that way this weekend was a little disappointing. But there were positive things too, development has happened all the time and riding has improved. Now I just have to make things succeed in races too.”

The World Supersport season 2021s next race weekend takes place in Portugal, Portimāo from 1 to 3 October.
