Niki Tuuli teki sen taas: Ranskan MM-osakilpailussa jälleen podiumille

NIKI TUULI TEKI SEN TAAS: RANSKAN MM-OSAKILPAILUSSA JÄLLEEN PODIUMILLE

Kallio Racing ja Niki Tuuli osoittivat jälleen kilpailukykynsä kovassa World Superportin MM-sarjassa, Tuulen ajaessa jo toistamiseen villin kortin kilpailussa podiumille. Nuori imatralaismies osoitti, ettei parin viikon takainen Saksan Lausitzringillä saavutettu 2. sija ollut mikään onnenkantamoinen ja tänään ajetussa startissa Ranskan Magny Coursissa Tuuli nähtiin johtamassa kilpailua monta kierrosta, ennen kuin ranskalainen Jules Cluzel kuittasi tämän kilpailun loppumetreillä. Maaliin tultiin järjestyksessä 1. Cluzel, 2. Tuuli, 3. Badovini.

NIKI TUULI DID IT AGAIN: BACK ON THE PODIUM IN A WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP RACE IN FRANCE

Kallio Racing and Niki Tuuli once again proved their competitivenes in a very tough World Supersport series when Tuuli rode to the podium with a wild card for the second time in a row. This young man from Imatra showed that second place in Lausitzring, Germany wasn't a lucky break but today in Magny Cours, France he was leading almost half of the race before French Jules Cluzel passed him in the final corners. The finish line were crossed in order of 1st Cluzel, 2nd Tuuli and 3rd Badovini. Kallio Racing's Hannes Soomer had a fantastic race and rode to the finish line in 12th position.

Weekend began in a changeable weather which brought a set of challenges for the team after both riders crashed on Friday's first free practice. Team quickly fixed both bikes and both riders got to continue the race weekend.

-We got both of the bikes fixed for the riders and we got to carry on the practices as earlier planned. Hannes had fairly difficult weekend when there were so many crashes during the weekend. Especially crashing during the qualifying had a toll on the starting position and so Hannes had to start from behind. We've come so far with Hannes, considering he is a very young rider who competes in races that are clearly much more demanding than he's ever been before in his career, team manager Vesa Kallio sums up.

Qualifying was held on wet conditions and Tuuli got 7th position on the grid. Soomer had to start from 31st position as he couldn't get the best possible laptime because of the crash during qualifying. The race on Sunday however was on dry weather and both riders had a great start. Tuuli quickly fought himself to the top and after race leader Sofuoglu crashing Tuuli was seen leading the race multiple laps. French Cluzel was tailing Tuuli the rest of the race until in the final lap, on braking he passed Niki. Tuuli came to the checkered flag only 0,24sec behind Cluzel and once again the quickest lap was made by the Finnish rider.

-Niki's riding was very confident since the qualifying. We didn't want to take any unnecessary risks and the starting position was good anyway. He did a good job in the race, Cluzel did pass Niki on the breaking where he (Cluzel) clearly was better. We once more could show here, that we have the ability to fight the pole position, which obviously is a great thing. We made a different tyre choice for Niki than the other top riders did, and we did a good job with that, Niki being stronger on the latter half of the race. Hannes on his behalf made a brilliant climb even tho his starting position was poor. We made a big step forward with Hannes this weekend, Kallio adds.

-I had a good start and climbed up few positions from the start. After that we had tight battle just behind the leading group and slowly I reached the top 3. Sofuoglu crashed when I was on 3rd position, right behind top 2. And so after that I got myself to the 1st spot, pleased Tuuli states.

Hannes Soomer rode his best World Championship result, finishing 37,5 sec after the winner being 12th. The man himself was happy with the race, altho the weekend was otherwise difficult.

-It was a tough job to rise from 31st position but the team had made the bike so good to ride and everything worked well, even tho I had few major crashes during the weekend. We made some changes that clearly went to the right direction and it's good to continue from here to Jerez. Big thanks to the team which made a lot of hard and good work, the bike was great, Soomer summarizes.

According to the team manager Vesa Kallio, the results have been on the level that the team most definately has the goal of competing the whole season of World Supersport series.

-We've been working on long-term for this and it's been very rewarding and motivating to get results like this from a wild card races. Our goal most definately is to race in this series next year, Kallio says.

Kallio Racing's season continues in Jerez, Spain 14.-15.10.
